Prop 8 Update: Boycott Utah, Ellen speaks, "The Daily Show" mocks, and more!

As we continue to come to terms with the news that California really actually unbelievably passed Prop 8, more folks are speaking out as the ramifications of the decision continue to manifest themselves. Ellen DeGeneres issued a statement to the AP saying she was "saddened beyond belief." She then filmed one of her humorous segments where she went on a vandalism spree painting three Mormon churches bright pink before getting drunk and breaking down weeping because she has to return all of her wedding presents.

AfterElton Briefs: Ellen talks Sarah Palin, Roger Ebert gives himself a thumbs down, and more!

David Burtka and Neil Patrick Harris looking adorable as always.

Following this assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.

  • Just because we can never get enough of them, the above pic is super-couple Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka at the one year anniversary party for the nightclub Blush in Las Vegas.
  • Ellen Degeneres is once again using her celebrity to fight the good fight, as she blasted V.P. nominee Sarah Palin on her talk show today. The highlight is when Ellen dismisses the view that children will be "influenced" in some way by learning that gay people can also be parents: "I was surrounded by heterosexuals, just everywhere I looked — heterosexuals. And they did not influence ... I mean I dabbled in high school, who didn't? Everyone dabbled, ya know?"
  • We've been talking about the new gay themed high school film Tru Loved for quite a while, and now, Roger Ebert has given the film the kind of publicity it wasn't expecting ... or wanting. The iconic critic gave the film one star (out of four), and admitted he only watched eight minutes before shutting it off, something he now regrets.

  • Well, they may as well call the election now, as Barack Obama has received the most important of all his endorsements. According to the Weekly World News, Batboy has come out in full support of Barack, thanks to the encouragement of the nominee's recently discovered half-bat, half-human brother Obatma. Rumor has it that Stephen Baldwin has already challenged Obatma to a boxing match.
  • Someone who's already made his decision is the out David Sedaris (aka the world's greatest living humorist), whose latest essay contains a hilarious and profane analogy about the presidential nominees (he compares them to airplane food).
  • In sad news, out Little Britain star Matt Lucas is officially divorced from his husband of two years, Kevin McGee. They've been split up since June, allegedly due to McGee's "unreasonable behavior".

"No on Prop 8": Ellen, Cho, and others weigh in with PSAs

Ellen DeGeneres is the latest celebrity to produce a PSA advising Californians of the dangers that Proposition 8 poses to the civil rights of its gay and lesbian citizens. After the jump, two more PSAs — one featuring Margaret Cho; the other featuring California Constitutional versions of the MAC & PC guys.

Ellen talks Proposition 8 and gay marriage on Jay Leno

As though we needed any more reason to love this woman, last night Ellen DeGeneres took the opportunity while guesting on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno to urge the audience to vote against Proposition 8, which would take away the right of gay Californians (like her and new wife Portia) to marry. And Jay chimed in, noting that there's been gay marriage in his home state for a while and nothing terrible has happened, and asks if we don't have more important things to focus on right now as a country aside from taking away the rights of gays and lesbians.

It's all totally awesome until Jay dips into some pretty shecky humor with his dead-in-the-water joke about Gay Divorce Court, but hey ... you can't ask a zebra to change his stripes, right?

Out gold medalist Matthew Mitcham

  • Rumors are swirling about regarding out Olympic champion Matthew Mitcham booking an as-yet-elusive national sponsorship.

  • But WTF is up with CNN International's coverage of Ellen's getting 'married'? Fearquotes are soooo 2007 ... and isn't it poor etiquette to misspell the name of one of the brides in the headline?
  • On the other hand, here's a cute clip of T.R. Knight, Katherine Heigl, and others wishing Ellen and Portia well on their weekend wedding.

Here come the brides: Ellen and Portia tie the knot

Ellen and Portia at the Daytime Emmy Awards in June

Just a quick Monday-morning shout-out to a few of our favorite out celebs: Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi made it legal over the weekend in their Los Angeles home with a small crowd of about 20 family and friends. The low-key wedding represents the highest-profile same-sex wedding to take place in California since the overturn of the marriage ban earlier this summer. The ladies (who have been together for four years) wore light pink (Portia) and white (Ellen) Zac Posen outfits and reports say that the day was informal, fun, and full of joy. Like we'd expect anything else.

Huge congrats to the ladies, and we look forward to seeing Ellen tell some embarrassing wedding cake stories on her show.

A candid shot of the happy day (more pics over here)

Van and Jake presenting Ellen with her Emmy

As you may have heard by now, Van Hansis sadly did not win the Daytime Emmy Award on Friday for his portrayal of gay teen Luke Snyder on As the World Turns. But he and Jake Silbermann were on-hand at the ceremony as the handsomest couple of presenters in the house, and were fittingly tasked with presenting Ellen Degeneres with her umpteenth well-deserved Emmy for her talk show.
