George Takei and Martina Navratilova hope to conquer the outback in "I'm a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here!"

Better with Age: 9 of Hollywood's sexiest older men

Full Disclosure: Yes, my name is Rob Smith and I like older men. I like their confidence, the fact that they’ve grown into their looks, and the fact that they’re generally more put together than some of us younger guys. If I had to date another 26-year-old, I’d probably shoot myself. I don’t even know how my boyfriend deals with me sometimes!

The guys on this list epitomize what is great about older men in a lot of different ways. Some are downright sexy, some are devastatingly handsome, and some have a “hotness” that comes from a combination of the two plus a regal charm that only men of a certain age seem to be able to pull off.

So enough with High School Musical twinks and stick-thin underwear models, this one’s about the real men and those of us that love them!

William Shatner responds to George Takei's wedding snub

Now, we're deeply embroiled in a discussion here on the AfterElton mothership about whether this video response by William Shatner to the George Takei wedding invite snub is the ramblings of a man whose celebrity and ego have rendered him unable to understand basic human interaction or a legitimate response to an inappropriate personal attack in the press.

Whichever it is, it's absolutely fascinating to watch over poached eggs. Try it!

AfterElton Briefs: Bob Mould's book, George Takei's vows, Howard Stern's antics and more!

Boyfriends T.R. Knight and Mark Cornelsen hug actress Mia Barron at the opening performance of House of Blue Leaves in Los Angeles

Following this assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.

  • Out rocker Bob Mould (Husker Du, Sugar) is writing an autobiography. Considering he lived through the 80s pioneering an otherwise hetero American music movement while a closeted gay man and drug user and came through the other side a blogger who shares casserole recipes on his website, it will no doubt be a fascinating read.
  • RealityBlurred.com has an exclusive interview with Survivor: Gabon's Charlie Herschel who apparently wants to be a large, powerful, black woman. That sounds nice, but I'd just take the million dollars and call it a day.
  • Howard Stern strikes again during a CNN broadcast about the U.S.'s latest financial catastrophe.  No doubt John McCain and Sarah Palin will cite this as a reason to ban gay marriage.

  • Apparently a lot of American LGBT groups aren't getting the joke when it comes to Little Britain USA: They're calling a boycott due to the show's "homophobic" humor. Or is it all a joke itself?
  • Gospel singer Ray Boltz has come out of the closet. Hallelujah!

George Takei and Brad Altman wed in Los Angeles

George Takei and his longtime partner, Brad Altman, made honest men of one another yesterday in Los Angeles when the two men were legally wed before a crowd of friends and family.

Two two men were wed at the Japanese American History Museum, for which you may recall George won $130,000 recently on the game show Wanna Bet? The ceremony was a multicultural one to say the least, with a Buddhist monk, Native American wedding rings, a kilted bagpiper and a Japanese harp. Star Trek castmate Nichelle Nichols (Uhura) was the Maid of Honor, and castmate Water Koenig (Chekov) was Best man.

More pics after the jump - and for more on the couple and their path to toward marriage, check out our brand-new article on the main page. All our best to the happy couple and their friends and families.

AfterElton Briefs: Big kudos for Gus, star power for Stonewall, and more!

Following this assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.

  • British LGBT advocacy group Stonewall has secured the support of celebs like James Sutton (Hollyoaks) Dan Gillespie-Sells (out lead singer of The Feelings), Sir Ian McKellen, Dannii Minogue, comedian Alan Carr, and Mark Feehily (Westlife) to promote the "Some people are Gay. Get over it!" anti-bullying campaign.
  • The IFP will honor out director Gus Van Sant at this year's Gotham Awards, and in conjunction with the filmmaker's latest project will be donating cameras to New York's Harvey Milk High School and starting a mentorship program (in conjunction with NewFest) to encourage young LGBT filmmakers. It's news like this that makes it worth getting up in the morning, yaknow?
  • Okay, this review of the disastrous remake of The Women from The Stranger written by "Diane Keaton" is genius. It had me at "What's up, bitches?"
Soon-to-be wed lovebirds George Takei and Brad Altman

  • Everyone's favorite wacky gay uncles, George Takei and hubby Brad Altman, will wed officially this Sunday. It's not too late to send them a blender! (Seriously, that's awesome, and we send our best!)
  • Okay, so we're not exactly BFFs with some of the folks at Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. But having Shirley Manson's new character pose as a urinal? Somebody over there really does have issues.

The Week in Gay Geek: Ultimate X-Fates, big screen DC heroes and more!

ULTIMATE X-MEN DISCUSSION ALERT:
This week, Ultimate X-Men #97 hit the comic shop shelves, the final chapter in the story that controversial included a(nother) death of Northstar as well as similarly dire consequences for Colossus. I figure it'll be good to have a space to discuss the story. However, since I don't want to put spoilers at the top of the post, this item is only here to let you know that there's a summary of the conclusion and a few reactions at the end of the post. Please add your reactions in the comments!

SAVE US MOVIE SIGN:
This has certainly been a week full of news for DC superhero movies and there was a gay aspect to most of those stories. Most exciting is a positive script review for the Greg Berlanti-directed Green Lantern movie that certainly builds the hype:

"Let me start off with saying that within just reading the first few pages, I knew Berlanti, Guggenheim and Green had gotten the character right."

Green Lantern Hal Jordan and director Greg Berlanti

On the other hand, this part is a tiny bit worrysome

"The script, if greenlit, is a sure-fire hit for fan boys, but in scale it's big, VERY big, and we are hearing rumors that it may be too big for the director currently attached, Greg Berlanti."

I'll be disappointed if Berlanti is deemed as not having the experience for Green Lantern. After all, Bryan Singer and Christopher Nolan weren't blockbuster movie directors when they brought X-Men and Batman Begins to the multiplexes.

And then comes the more surprising rumor of gay icon Cher as a possible Catwoman for the next Batman film. What makes the rumor rather interesting for me is the comment that Cher's Catwoman would be "like a vamp in her twilight years." Which strikes me as an interesting take on the iconic villain. I'd love to see a Selina Kyle who has benefited from years of villainy.

Cher and Catwoman

On the less-gay front there's talk of the Superman film franchise getting a reboot, Batman Begins-style. In the various reports I've read, I've seen Superman Returns director Bryan Singer compared to Ang Lee (who directed the first unsuccessful Hulk film), which makes it sound unlikely he'll be participating in the next Superman movie.

Sigh, that's a lot of gays-getting-booted-from-superhero-movie rumors for one week, isn't it?

TAKEI ALERT!
Is the number of gay actors performing in video games on the increase or have I only just started to notice? Not only will we soon hear Stephen Fry's voice in Fable 2 but now comes word that George Takei will be appearing in the between-mission cinemas for Red Alert 3.

George Takei in Red Alert 3

Actually, the Red Alert 3 cast has more than a bit of a gay sensibility. In addition to Takei, the cast includes gay faves like Tim Curry (whose history as a video game voice goes back as far as cult classic Gabriel Knight), Oz bad guy JK Simmons as well as Gemma Atkinson of Hollyoaks and the very gay Hollyoaks spin-off In the City. I'd be rather excited if most RTS strategy games — including the original Command & Conquor — didn't quickly end in frustration for me.

After the break: When Fallout 3 is planning on destroying your social life, Hex' Thelma meets Elizabeth Bennett and the latest fates for Ultimate Colossus and Northstar.

George Takei gets roasted, and Howard Stern throws him a bachelor party

Soon-to-be-wed Brad Altman and George Takei, under the watchful eye of Barbra Streisand

It's a big week for wacky gay uncle George Takei (and seriously, I say that with utmost affection). First, he appeared on The Howard Stern Show yesterday (as he often does) and discussed his pre-nup with fiance Brad Altman and took a "gay pop quiz" on various gay terms and slang and he did pretty well (better than I would have done, actually!).

Here's a choice tidbit from the show's official recap:

Howard played a clip from yesterday's Wrap-Up Show of George revealing that he has two paintings of his fiancé in the nude, one of a young Brad and the other more recent. Howard asked George why he didn't just have a photographer take a picture, so George explained that he was friends with the artists. Howard also wondered if George ever pleasured himself to the pictures, but George said no: “I can't see them from the shower.”

Then last night George was roasted at the Friars Club, which must have been a blast. If you remember, George was one of the highlights of the William Shatner roast, where he sat quietly on the receiving end of countless gay jokes before laying into the Shat and the rest of the roasters mercilessly. (If you want to watch a clip, check out this one, which has some language that may be a bit spicy for work environs.)

Today Takei is back on Stern, where Howard and the gang are throwing him a bachelor party, and of course that means all sorts of perverted what-not. Still, pervy or no, gotta love Howard for treating his gay guests just like he does his straight ones, and bless Takei's heart and sense of humor.

More pics from George's roast after the jump!
