  • Hey David Sedaris fans! Logo's OutFirst Authors series is offering a free download of David reading the short story "Solution to Saturday's Puzzle" from his latest book, When You Are Engulfed in Flames.
  • Nonpartisan Hollywood lobby Creative Coalition will be taking Neil Patrick Harris to the Republican convention (hopefully in-character as Barney?), while Rufus Wainwright and Cyndi Lauper will perform for the Democrats.
  • And speaking of NPH, Comedy Central's Indecision '08 asks which Neil Patrick Harris character would make the best running-mate for Obama. (Hint: It's not the Emcee from Cabaret.)
Margaret Cho vamps it up at the premiere of The Cho Show

  • Arjan Writes interviews rising gay pop star Sam Sparro.
  • And don't ask me to explain why you want to watch this clip of Tori Spelling's husband Dean McDermott demonstrating their new high-tech toilet to their housewarming party guests. You just do.

Trailer: Gay horror movie "Cthulhu" swims into theatres this fall

You may have heard that I'm a huge horror movie fan. Like, leviathan. And being a gay horror fan, I've found myself on the disappointing end of the stick ... oh, with about every gay horror movie since Hellbent. So imagine my delight when I caught a glimpse at the long-coming gay horror movie Cthulhu and it totally didn't suck.

The movie has a gay lead character and tackles the complicated and unique mythology of legendary horror writer H.P. Lovecraft, whose work is magnificently haunting but incredibly difficult to capture on film (I've seen many failed attempts, believe me). If this trailer is any indication, these folks might have gotten it right, and with a gay twist to boot ... thank you, lord Cthulhu!

Oh, and did I mention that Tori Spelling plays a small part? Girl looks hot!

Check it out after the break...

AfterElton Briefs: Gay rap operas, gay Christian TV hosts, and other things you weren't expecting

Chris Craddock and Nathan Cuckow, stars of BASH'd

In a continued effort to bring you all that is important in the world of gay entertainment and ensure that you are being spoon-fed images of gorgeous, commoditized manflesh, we present the newly-minted AfterElton Briefs. Following the usual assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.

  • Gay rap opera BASH'd, which tells the story of a gay man who retaliates when his lover is gay-bashed, is getting an Off-Broadway run this summer at the Zipper Theater (starting June 12). Let's see ... yep, this is the only white, gay, and Canadian rap opera running this season.

Newly-out Azariah Southworth of The Remix, a Christian music show
  • Christian TV host Azariah Southworth (I know, mouthful, right?) has come out as gay, and is pretty much prepared for his career in Christian television to be over, despite the fact that he knows of a lot of other gay folks behind the scenes who are too afraid to live openly. Good for him!
  • Tori Spelling, star of the upcoming gay romantic comedy Kiss the Bride, loves her the gays. But we knew that, as her roles in Trick, So NoTORIous, and pretty much everything else since 90210 can attest.
