Survey: We Already Know Many Women Love Gay Men. Now Help Us Learn Why!
From Karen Walker and Jack McFarland on Will and Grace to Carrie Bradshaw and Stanford Blatch on Sex and the City to Marc and Amanda on Ugly Betty, television writers have created a new kind of super couple over the last decade: the "queer peer" and her gay. She's a neurotic wreck who can't keep a man. He's a constant companion who loves to hear her complain — and then take her shopping for shoes.
Female interest in gay men is more complex than the stereotypical “queer peer.” There are lesbians, like myself, who adore them as our brothers in the fight for equality. And there are straight women who want to watch two men kiss, because if one rock-hard set of abs is good, two rock-hard sets of abs are better. (And yes, there are women who want a fashionable, sensitive male pal for trips to the day spa.) With the recent hullabaloo over Adam Lambert's Details photo shoot, and Esquire's theory that vampires represent gay men, we thought it would be a perfect time to survey our female readers and come to our own conclusions about the complex relationships between women and gay men. If you are a woman (of any sexual orientation), please take a moment to answer our survey questions below. The survey will be open until Sunday, Nov. 8 at midnight. If you'd like to expound on your answers, please feel free to do so in the comments. We just might include them in our article about the results!

Of course, it’s not just the Gay BFF that grabs female attention. Over the last several years, women of all sexual orientations have formed online communities dedicated to fictional gay pairings that exist (Ianto Jones and Jack Harkness, Kevin Walker and Scotty Wandell) and gay pairings they wish existed (Sam Winchester and Dean Winchester, Merlin and Arthur). Women enjoy reading about them, writing about them, and oh! the fan videos.
