Interviews and Pics from the 19th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in San FranciscoGet a bunch of well-dressed queer and queer-friendly media people under one roof, roll out a red carpet, and give out awards, and you have the 19th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in San Francisco. The fourth in a dazzling series of Award nights held in New York City, Los Angeles, South Florida, and San Francisco, the event honored actors, writers, directors, editors, musicians, and political figures for their contributions to positive portrayals of the LGBT community in media. On the night of May 10, stars including Alan Cumming, Jason Lewis, David Bromstad, Sharon Stone, and Jennifer Beals walked down the red carpet and stopped to talk with AfterElton.com about the awards, queer visibility in the media, and of course, the hot topic of the night: Kevin and Scotty's upcoming wedding. J. P. Calderon (The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency) said he wanted to let AfterElton.com readers know how grateful he is for the support they've shown him and his career. "I just want to thank them for giving me the encouragement they've said I've given them."

Joining Calderon on stage to introduce the GLAAD 101 reel was HGTV's David Bromstad (Color Splash). David told me he's still loving San Francisco, where the series is filmed, even though his longtime boyfriend lives in Florida. "We're still going strong," he said. "It's been four years, and the distance has not done anything but make us stronger." His face broke into a huge smile. "He actually flew in this morning. And I'm usually there on the weekends, or at least every other weekend, so it's not so bad."

In addition to Color Splash's new season and being part of Google's float in San Francisco Pride in June, the most important thing on his agenda was the event he was at that night. "This is huge," he said. "I'm very excited to be here. It's so fun. Look at everybody. They look fantastic. Everyone's excited. It's a really positive organization and I'm so happy they asked me to be here tonight."

I asked David if he had anything to say to his gay fans, and he said, "Thank you so much for supporting me, and keep watching Color Splash!" I then mentioned that he has a lot of lesbian fans, and he laughed. "I love my lesbian fans! One of my best friends is a lesbian out here in San Francisco. We went to college together. ... There's a funny little backstory on our friendship. Four of us hung out our first year in college, and none of us were out. We were all in the closet. Three out of the four came out: Two lesbians, and then me, and we still have one straight one — but we're hoping she'll come out soon." Up next: Alan Cumming, the men behind The DL Chronicles, and much more...
