The Best Summer Movie Preview Ever!

The weekend also brings us Sundance darling Humpday, in which two competitive straight friends push a game of "gay chicken" to the breaking point when they decide to make a gay porn together. Reviews from Sundance say the film is a lo-fi gem and that the gay elements are handled deftly, so this one might be worth hunting down in limited release.

And of course Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince apparates into theaters on July 17, bringing with it a major plot point involving gay wizard Dumbledore. Of course, in the world of the books no one apparently knows that he's gay, but as the movies grow darker and more adult, it will be interesting to see if this knowledge creeps into the subtext in any way.

August: Woodstock, Bandslam, and "Yoooooooo Joe!"

If you're into military attire, international intrigue or Channing Tatum (I imagine that should cover just about all of us, right?) the big-screen realization of a classic American doll in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (August 7) may be right up your alley. Based mostly on the '80s cartoon series, this explosive-heavy version stars Dennis Quaid, Marlon Wayans, Tatum, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Mysterious Skin) as the man who would become Cobra Commander. This one seems better-suited for July 4th weekend, but who knows, it may be worth the $12 to sit in some air conditioning for a few hours, right?
