Exclusive: Kirk is Bisexual, Kisses Spock in Upcoming “Star Trek” Movie

Leonard Nimoy, who appears in the movie in a cameo, is also on board with the characters’ new sexualities.

In the scene where the younger Kirk kisses Spock, the emotion-less Vulcan doesn’t seem to understand the overture. But in a “bookend” scene with future-Spock, played by Leonard Nimoy, the character is seen with his face pressed to the seat of the captain’s chair and stroking Kirk’s communication badge with his cheek, suggesting he regrets never responding to the affections of Kirk, who is then dead.

Ironically, Sulu, the character originally played by out actor George Takei, is now something called a “Rundamentalist Blistian” who quotes something called the “Boly Hible” and disapproves of Kirk’s polyamorous ways.

John Cho plays Sulu, reimagined as a "Rundamentalist Blistian"

“One of things that’s so great about science fiction is that you can comment on contemporary issues, but do so in such a subtle way that it goes over many people’s heads,” Abrams said.

Chris Pine, the actor who plays the younger Kirk, previously played gay in The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, in which he was the love interest of Princess Mia’s Anne Hathaway. Pine’s character was mostly straight, but instantly became totally gay whenever in the presence of co-star Julie Andrews.

"Squee!"

One observer pointed out Hollywood’s long history of associating bisexuality with promiscuity and/or adventurousness.

“Kirk is such a skank,” said GLAAD’s Damon Romine. “But it’s been a while since we’ve have a bisexual skank as hot as Chris Pine.”

In another surprising move, the movie includes the character of Jar Jar Binks – the universally-hated alien from a competing science fiction franchise, Star Wars.

“I told you, we questioned everything,” Abrams said. “And one of the questions we asked ourselves was, ‘If we wanted include in our crew the most reviled science fiction character of all time, who would it be?’”

Shaking my fist at you in anger...

Mild anger, really.  I guess I was almost amazed that Star Trek would go there that I would forget that April Fools Day can affect everything, even a post on AfterElton.com.  Wacka wacka...

If Only

Realization came to me with the mention of the "openly gay Dr. McCoy," but before then I pretty much crapped myself about four times.

Old-school Kirk was totally all about any port in the storm. For any logical person, the bit about online dating would not be such a big leap. Too bad Star Trek insists on being the franchise that boldly goes where "NO BALLS!!!!" have been before.

Heh. "Blo-mance." I'm SO stealing that! ;Þ

Wow...

I fell for this hook, line and sinker...until the Jar Jar part. :)

It all made sense that sexuality would be more fluid in the future, considering all the inter-species mating and the so-called "evolved" humanity of the Federation.

I was just (pleasantly) shocked that, after years of no real GLBT representation in the Star Trek franchise, they would make the two most iconic characters in the mythology lovers.  Talk about a bold reimagining of the mythology!  If true, JJ Abrams should win every GLAAD award for the next 5 years.

Alas, it was all a joke.  It's actually kinda sad, because IMO this would've added an incredible amount of depth to the James/Spock relationship.

K/S ftw...

I would totally have fallen for this if I hadn't seen the AFD post on AfterEllen... DAMN I wish it was true...

(Shameless self-promotion... I wanted it to happen so much I made a video about it. :P http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEMmzuzhr3g )

Is there any truth to the rumor that Lucy Lawless will play "Old Bones"?

"The mountain has wings."

Blo-mance...

You fooled me until the very end. Dammit, I so wanted this to be true, because Chris Pine is a fox!

Also, where has Karl Urban been since LOTR?

Double darn you all to heck!

OK, OK, you had me there for a while. Realization came about when you reached Sulu and the "Boly Hible".

Would totally buy the gay McCoy hating Spock because of his relationship with Kirk.

(Note: Richard Bones McCoy did cause a WTF are they changing his first name from Leonard moment).

Would even have allowed their reason for the miniskirts, thats how much I wanted this to be true / should have been the moment that I remembered what day it is.

Pure and Neat Vulcan Logic.

As we don’t have April’s fool here, with the first lines in the begining I was excited even though I keep thinking, “you’ve got to be kidding me…you’ve got to be kidding me…” Then, when I copypasted the Kirk Spock kiss and tuned it with and image editor, was so clear that it was a –bad- photoshop, I finally began to think “what the hell…” And well, too good of a dream to be true.

But nonetheless, with a pure an neat Vulcan logic.

I'll have you know that took me an hour! lol

Not that bad...

I mean, if it were really bad I wouldn't have used the edition program to discover it. By the way, very good idea that of tuning down the light as a way to merge the different layers. So, you have your credit! Those words were said out of grief, lol.

Cruel

What a cruel, cruel joke. I totally bought it, long after 1 April. Skim read the article for the parts I genuinely wanted to be true and then spent the ENTIRE movie waiting for the kiss. The ENTIRE movie. Shame on you - lol - I can see the funny side now but I need to watch the movie again - this time not expecting hot, bi-sex cross species love from the likes of total hottie Chris Pine.
