Remember all that talk this summer over whether or not Brüno was good for the gays? Such discussion was, of course, predicated on the notion that this new comedy from Sasha Baron Cohen would be as popular as his breakout hit, Borat. Well, it wasn't, but Brüno still wound up being a very funny and provocative film that pushed a lot of buttons about American homophobia. If you were nervous about seeing it in a theater, now you can laugh and cringe at home.

A more successful film this summer was Star Trek, a rebooting of the legendary TV series from director J.J. Abrams that wound up being pretty much everything you'd ever want in a summer popcorn movie. The action was exciting, the chemistry between—of all people—Spock and Uhura was palpable, and the cast (including Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, John Cho and Simon Pegg, among others) was spot-on. I've never been much of a Trek geek, but I can't wait for the sequel.
