Touchdown! Is Eric Dane playing Bradley Cooper's boyfriend in "Valentine's Day"?

Eric Dane may huddle with Bradley Cooper

Remember our post back in May about Bradley Cooper playing gay in the upcoming romcom Valentine's Day? We asked for your fantasy casting choices for who should play his boyfriend, who was described as a "closeted football player".

There were many names we threw around, including Chris Pine, Butters, Chris Evans, and Jensen Ackles, but one name that was not mentioned was Grey's Anatomy star Eric Dane.

Well it's now being reported that Dr. McSteamy is joining the cast of the film as a "Brett Favre-esque quarterback".

Using my powers of seduction deduction, I was able to ... deduce ... that Eric is playing Bradley's closeted football player lover. Just call me EnSNICKSopedia Brown. Okay, that was stupid, but at least I didn't attempt a "tight end" joke.

What do you think of Eric and Bradley possibly playing a couple? Looking forward to it? Is it good casting, or do you wish they could have tried to get a gay actor for at least one of the roles? (t/y to bth for the tip)

    Whoa!

OH no you didn't make an Encyclopedia Brown reference!!! Can i be Sally?  (please hold back the obvious jokes).  And let's just say if they cast Eric Dane it will become my personal mission to kidnap Bradley Cooper and have them recast me in his role! *Swoon*

I am totally ok with this casting

Eric Dane definitely looks like he could be a pro football player, and just the idea of him and Bradley Cooper potentially locking lips (hopefully, please, please, please!!!) sends me into spasms of joy!

I'm also totally ok with both roles being played by a straight actor; in fact, I don't see it as *necessary* for a gay role to be played by an openly gay actor. I'd be more impressed if they were to cast an openly gay actor as a straight character, as the leading man for one of the leading ladies in this (or any other) film.

    No generic loving!!

I could care less if one of them was gay, but I really hope there's more than hugging, patting on backs, kisses on cheeks... anything that would 'count' as an embrace, but is really just a cop out to the real stuff.  If the leading straight couple can nookie with each other countless times, then the sixth in line sub-plot involving the two gay characters can at least get one good open mouth kiss!  Am I bitter?  Absolutely!

    I would rather see Chris

I would rather see Chris Pine.  Eric Dane's cute and all, but I was never really impressed with his talent, that is not a euphemism.  I mean, Charmed pretty much ruined a lot of things for me, him being one of them.

Oh well, I can always get some vodka, orange juice, and rent Surrender Dorothy if I want to see Chris Pine smooching a man.  Heck, it's Tom Everett Scott, so it will be worth it.

As others have already said above...

I hope for a really good make-out scene, at the very least!!

    AH-OOOOOO-GAH!!!

I tried to post this comment earlier, but I had to get ice to cool off my fingers to keep my keyboard from melting, cause I got all kinds of overheated at the thought of those two playing....in any sense of the word...boyfriends!

    And the pics only helped!

If only i could get the job on the film crew as the baby-oil towel boy....

    Dane loves Dane...and Bradley

I'm hoping for some commentary on the dvd with Bradley saying something like, "Oh, I loved kissing Dane.  And being naked in bed with Dane.  Dane has become the love of my life and I would leave all women for Dane."  I will close my eyes and hit the repeat button over and over to it...  [faints]

    Sigh

You people are so naive.  You think BC and ED are going to have any make out scenes?  Please, wake up and smell the piss coffee!

    1.  It's a Hollywood movie

    2.  It's NOT an indie

    3.  BC is a big star now.  I'm not against him.  I like him.  Even though I think he's gay friendly, sometimes it's out of his control. Image, people!  No way his agents and those power that be would allow a hot star doing gay scenes, esp now he's been casted in a big budget The A Team.

    4.  Sure, Milk, Brokeback had big stars.  But this is not a gay theme movie.  It's a romantic comedy.  When's the last time you see a romantic comedy with gay couples in it?

    Not Implausible...

Ah, but you forget that the teenage heartthrob Robert Pattinson (Who I am NOT a fan of) was cast as Salvador Dalí in Little Ashes. That is definitely a step forward, when it comes to what is taboo and what isn't.

Although, I am inclined to hesitate that either actor will engage in a liplock, I remain hopeful that they might be some of the first to do so even with increasing celeb status. I can dream!

Besides, it wouldn't be that hard to believe that a gay couple might be in a romantic comedy. Think about it... RomComs are all for the girls - mainly - and the public is becoming more and more aware of the rising phenomenon called 'slashing.'

What could it hurt? It might bring in the slashers as well as keep the regulars coming just to see the film. A whole new audience at their disposal! I think it would be a most intelligent move on a marketing standpoint.

    "Little Ashes" is a small

"Little Ashes" is a small budget indie film, not a Hollywood blockbuster.

As I said, only indie films, gay-theme storylines or real life storylines are treated differently.

    It is inevitable

It is inevitable that a major Hollywood romcom will show two male stars making out. That is the direction society is moving and it will happen. Will it be Bradley Cooper and Eric Dane in Valentine's Day? I hope so.

If the two stars, director Garry Marshall and New Line/Warners have the balls to do it, more power to them; if they don't, you can expect some very--and vocally--disappointed moviegoers, especially if we have to endure two hours of straight kisses. Equal representation is what it's about.

    OMG! YAY! They will

OMG! YAY! They will definitly look super-cute together :D

    Can't wait!

    In a selfish shallow response...

...those two would look REALLY hot together. I'd definitely pay to see that.

I never even thought of Eric Dane...

    but it works for me!!

And I echo the others, if there is a mess of guy/girl makin' out, there had better be an equal share of the man on man action!

    A case of perfect casting?

From what I have read, casting BC as a gay man in love with a rugged football star isn't too far-fetched.

I thought it was comical that a week after EW printed a photo of Cooper with his BFF Justin Bartha on bikes in Manhattan (they go everywhere together), someone--agent? manager? studio prez?--pushed for coverage of Cooper "dating" Jennifer Aniston.

It was so instant, it made your head spin.  And then, lo and behold, Aniston releases a statement saying the two are *not* dating.  Of course they aren't.  But Coop's star is on the rise, and so the star-making machinery has to grind out story after story about how rugged BC is so no one gets too inquisitive.

Maybe Victor Garber wants to offer his two cents.  I'm just saying.
