"Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" casts its gay character and adds a Hot 100 hottie to boot
Last year we told you about cult comic book series Scott Pilgrim and its long road to the big screen. For those who've never heard of it, here's a brief synposis: "The series is about 23-year-old Canadian Scott Pilgrim, a slacker, hero, wannabe-rockstar, who is living in Toronto and playing bass in the band "Sex Bob-Omb." He falls in love with American delivery girl Ramona V. Flowers, but must defeat her seven "evil exes" in order to date her." Already confirmed for the movie version is director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and the greatest film never made, "Don't"), and starring as Scott is adorkable Superbad star Michael Cera. After the break we've got new casting news, including an AfterElton HOT 100 favorite, and who will be playing Scott's gay roommate ... who is also his platonic bedmate.
Kieran Culkin, Chris Evans The role of Wallace Wells, Scott's gay roommate and confidant, will be played by Kieran Culkin (the "Jan" in that particular family dynasty), and Chris Evans (our favorite momma's boy) has been cast as one of the seven evil ex-boyfriends that Scott must overcome. It'll be interesting to see how Edgar Wright — one of the few comedy directors who doesn't resort to "gay panic" in his films, and in fact promotes straight male affection — approaches the relationship between Scott and Wallace, and if their friendship will be muted so as not to offend the fragile sensibilities of the frat boy audience.
