Liveblogging "One Life To Live": The Big Day, Part Six "Kyle's Choice"
Kyle makes his decision today, but if it was up to you, the choice should be clear. Here are the results from last week's poll.
Well at least nine percent of you got it right. An overwhelming two-thirds think Kyle should choose Oliver. Will he agree? Joins us for the fun and refresh for updates! 2:05PM EST: Bora! Bora! Bora! The Horra! The Horra! The Horra! Is it just me, or is half the cast now in "London"? Where is the Buchanan estate? If it's on the Moors, steer clear of anyone who looks like Griffin Dunne! Nick tells Kyle "It's time", and Kyle stands up like he's being led to the gallows. 2:10PM EST: Ha! Neville is Nigel with bad teeth. He opens the door and basically tells DVTM to buzz off (as Destiny hides in the bushes). Reverend Carpenter pleads with the protesters to act like human beings. Good luck with that. 2:15PM EST: Viki asks Todd How's Blair?" and Todd says "she's Blair?". Enough said. On the trip to "London", TBTD spills the beans to Eli that Ross is not Dani's father. Ross shows up at the boarding school and is caught by headmistress Ursa (I don't know if that's her name, but that's what I'm calling her). 2:20PM EST: Oh dear ... Dorian looks in physical pain as Andrew talks about true love. Nick and Kyle are standing together, and Kyle keeps glancing back at Oliver. Cris and Layla mention to each other how devastated Oliver looks. OMG, here we go. Nick turns to Kyle and whispers "I love you", prompting a "wha-wha-wha-what?" from Kyle. Andrew says "please take out your rings, and as you exchange them, I will announce you partners". Kyle, who looks about ready to bust out crying, fidgets and finally says "wait, I can't do this!" The camera pans to Oliver, whose heart has just taken a giant leap out of his chest. 2:25PM EST: Nick asks him what's going on, and Kyle says "you said you loved me. We've never said that to each other". Nick says "I do love you, Kyle". Kyle says "I'm sorry, but I don't love you, Nick. Someday I want to marry the man I love. I just hope I get that chance". He turns around and stares at Oliver. Now it's Nick's turn to look devastated. 2:35PM EST: Neville is duped by Destiny. He needs to hand in his British Butler card. Ross is carted off by a hot security guard in black gloves before he can see Danni. Kyle walks up to Oliver and tearfully says "I know that I said it's over between us, but here I am in a tux, surrounded by all these people, who are just proudly sharing their love with one another, and I just keep thinking I'm standing with the wrong man, because all I want to do is share my love with you. So what do you think, do you think we can we give it another shot?" Oliver tearfully says "I do", and Kyle caps it off with "I love you, Oliver. I always have". A tearful Nick turns and runs off, as Roxy runs up to Kyle and says "you can still get married! Marry Fish!"
2:45PM EST: Kyle and Oliver thankfully agree that now is not the right time to get married, and maybe they should try dating first. Dorian, it seems, is determined to go through with it even after Amelia gives her another out. Dorian says "I've said I'm gay, It won't go away, I'm here to stay!" The only thing missing is "get used to it!" 2:55PM EST: Andrew wraps up the wedding speech, and says "you may kiss your spouse". Dorian and Amelia reluctantly kiss, as DVTM looks on from London, horrified. Roxy walks up to Jackie Hoffman as Protester #1 and says "don't knock it til you've tried it", and places a kiss on her lips, which elicits a smile from the loudmouth hater, before the mask of hate is put back on her face. Kyle and Oliver share a tender kiss, and are soon drowning in a sea of smooches. It's a great way to end the show. Preview Time: Kyle and Oliver decide the next step. ya know, i bet Kyle...
ya know, i bet Kyle will go through with the wedding to Nick. it's obviously true love with those two.
:-P
Not a chance
My comment...
my comment was sarcastic, hence my :-P face
I think we all know what will go down
I can't wait to watch this
Yay!
Me too
It's been on my mind all weekend.
And me!
I Don't Know Who....
Ugh
More Nora and Bo?
Glad to see TBTD, though...love her.
Lets just say it wasn't a foregone conclusion...
Great photo, snicks
Scott's face is too sad...
TBTD and Elijah sitting in a tree?
Who doesn't see the Elijah/Tea romance coming soon?
------------------------------------------------------------
If I bring out the devil in you, he was there all along!
Legally married Sept 18, 2009. Wedded Oct 10,2009.
'splain me Lucy...
i forget what TBTD stands for.
i'm sorry, it's age, i know.
actually, i'm having trouble remembering the other initial references. i know who they are but can't remember the acrimonious meaning behind them.
is there a dictionary so that i can keep them all straight? oh, wait. maybe that's not the right word to use...
This offense is punishable by defenestration!
TBTD = That Bitch Téa Delgado!
Don't let Téa hear you say you don't know what that stands for...she might slap or throw you out a window!
Defenestrations
There were two earlier defenestrations- the first in 1419 of seven city council members by Czech Hussites. Not Hussies!
The second, more famous, was At Prague Castle on May 23, 1618, an assembly of Protestants, led by Count Thurn, tried two Imperial governors, for violating the Right of Freedom of Religion, found them guilty, and threw them, together with their scribe Philip Fabricius, out of the windows of the Bohemian Chancellery. They fell 100 feet and landed on a large pile of manure in a dry moat and survived.
Sounds more like the Defenestration of by one Hussy of Blair into the pond.
Aime-mois moins, mais aime-moi longtemps
thank you all for jarring my memory...
not sure if i'd prefer a slap or the window...
probably the slap. definitely the slap.
Initials
They already explained TBTD. The other main initial-ed character is DVTM (David Vickers The Man, as distinct from David Vickers The Dog).
As far as I can recall, those are the only initials that show up regularly.
i voted for
a mysterious stranger. Yes Kyle,Fish and Nick are all hot, but three of the dullest non-sexual queen.
wholesome laughter has great face value
Say WHAT?
Did Nick just say, "I love you?"
Good Lord...
Yes he did.
Wow.
Vicki and Todd
I'd hoped that Vicki would've been more aggressive in pushing back the story about TBTD that Blair concocted. It's just so preposterous to anyone who knows Tea...
Poor Nick...
Do you really feel any pity?
Of Course.....
couldn't say it better...
it's exactly what i think by myself, i always was a big fan of Nick and never understand why so many people don't like him,he is such a hottie!
i adore Kyle and Oliver lover story a lot,but it never prevent me to love Nick as well, and i'm so hope he will stick for long long time and yes will find hot bf,but i woudn't mind either if he will get his second chance with Kyle sometime, wow! i love this thought:)
To me he looks kinda pathetic
Today's lesson about Gay Marriage
Down to the wire = soapy goodness
Yes, this is a time honored soap convention.
No......
real soapy goodness would be...
Nah, that would just be NIP/TUCK.
I knew that was coming!
Ugh. I feel so bad for
Ugh. I feel so bad for Nick. Nicholas Rodriguez is killing me. All of these guys are!!!
It's like rubbernecking at a car wreck on the freeway...
i think the show...
i think the show definitely should've delved more into kyle and Nick's relationship, because i'm thinking "jigga what? you love the man already? damn"
oh well. que sera, que sera
I can totally buy that Nick is in love with Kyle.
Is it a deeply considered love. No. Is it mutual. Definitely not. But sure, I think Nick could be in love with Kyle -- or a least the notion of Kyle -- at this moment.
Hell...I'm in love with Kyle
Kyle and Nick
You never even knew if they had slept together....I think it was implied, but they were usually at Kyle's place and Kyle either was busy or had to go class...or study.... Given Nick's activism it seems like he grabbed on to Kyle to make a point. And Kyle was so hurt by Oliver that he was open to the attention.
But you could see how much angst Kyle was going through resolving his feelings for Oliver and I am glad he is resolving them with a happy ending in sight.
Slept Over
Well, we at least know that Nick slept over at Kyle's. Remember when Oliver's dad saw them kissing goodbye in the morning as Nick headed off to work or whatever? Kyle was definitely showing Nick downstairs after Nick had stayed the night.

Yeah
Me too.
I actually didn't feel bad until Nick ran off.

OH MY GOD. BRETT IS
poor Nick
says ILY and now Kyle comes to his senses. Bullcrap this storyline isn't dramatic, romantic just plain silly and hurtful. Nick gave Kyle several chances to backout of this faux marriage thing, it didn't have to come to this.
wholesome laughter has great face value
Well
I'm not sold on this storyline--mainly because of the flippant way lesbian relationships are being portrayed--but the decision to back out until the last minute is pure soap. Is the ideal gay storyline? No. Are Kyle, Nick and Oliver being treated like any other love triangle? Absolutely.
yes... but Oliver's speech changed everything!
remember last friday when they had an arguement? KYLE DOES NOT WANT TO BE WITH SOMEONE WHO CANNOT ACKNOWLEDGE their love for one another to the whole world... he loves oliver but he can't go through all of the closet relationship again (as what they've had before back in college).... but after oliver declared all over the news and all the people there that HE IS GAY AND PROUD OF IT - that changed everything.... that's the man kyle would want to be with for the rest of his life! that's what kyle has been waiting for - for oliver to be truly open about his homosexual feeling and not be ashamed of it!
PLUS - he was not told the truth that this marriage, if ever Lord is elected - would be legal and binding. this is not some statement anymore... this is the real deal... so yes... down to the last second - with everything that has happened within a few minutes before they say "i do" - he now know for certain that oliver would be the man he would like to be with for the rest of his life if and only if he would only give him a chance.
Yes to this
Put it this way.
It's supposed to be "silly" in terms of the gay marriage political background because nowhere is the gay voting bloc determinative of any election, and it is supposed to be "hurtful" because it's all about unrequited love and revisiting past hurts and ultimately forgiveness - all soap opera, all the time.
This is the first bona fide gay male love triangle in daytime, and ONE LIFE TO LIVE did a helluva job with it. Is it perfect? Of course, not. But it did make history and paves the way for the future stories in this and other shows to build upon what Ron Carlivati and Frank Valentini have begun with Oliver and Kyle.
Hopefully.
Nick/Kyle/Oliver
I can't feel bad for Nick. He knew that Kyle was having second thoughts. He knew that there were unresolved feelings with Oliver and Kyle.
He pushes this as a stunt wedding to make the news. Then, at almost the last minute, he springs it on Kyle that this could become a binding marriage
(Not really. You would need a marriage license that is signed by both parties, as well as someone legally charged to validate that both parties entered the marriage openly and freely. Had Kyle not signed the marriage license, it wouldn't be legal. This isn't even taking into account that marriage rights are not equal in PA.)
Then, to REALLY muck it all up, he admits to Kyle at the last possible second that he is in love with him, which they have never said to each other. I don't blame Kyle for freaking out. What was supposed to be a stunt suddenly became the real deal, and he realized that Nick's feelings were far, far ahead of his own. Add to that the fact that he is still madly in love with Oliver, and you have soapy goodness.
Nick should have been upfront with Kyle, and none of this would have happended. He was trying to pull a fast one, and thankfully, it didn't happen.
That being said, I still like the character of Nick (and the actor), and would like to see him stick around. Although this being a soap, he will probably do everything in his power to break up Oliver and Kyle if he hangs around, and then I will have to hate him.
The whole retroactive validity of the gay marriages/weddings...
...is absolute rubbish, and I never once took this gay marriage background seriously because it's a plot device and nothing more. Someone at SOD suggested that maybe one of the guys should be injured and then denied access to seeing them at the hospital to make the point about gay marriage. But this storyline was never about politicizing the issue and making gay marriage front and center of the Kish storyline. And it's too much of a lightning rod to make a centerpiece of a story so Ron Carlivati and Frank Valentini, in my view, were smart NOT to put a magnifying glass on the gay marriage issue.
And Dorian legitimizing the marriages should she get elected is nonsense. The couples in the mass weddings have no marriage licenses in the first instance, so there's nothing to retroactively legitimize. If elected, Dorian could direct the clerk to issue NEW licenses to the same sex couples a la Gavin Newsom, AND THEN, the unions could be deemed legal after a ceremony and the issuance of a marriage certificate (and up to challenge by opposers based on the domestic relations law of Pennsylvania). Dorian can't just decree that everyone who got married today in the mass weddings, whose marriages do not exist legally in the first instance, will be legally wed at her say-so at some future point in time. So, Kyle could still back out of "really" marrying Nick should Dorian win the mayoral race and a marriage license was sought by him and Nick.
Again, this is whole gay marriage plot is just that: a plot device. I wish it were stretched out so that the Nick/Kyle dynamics would have played out longer, but it feels like the writers had to rush it to coincide the Llanview elections with election day in real time.
I love Nicholas Rodriguez, so I want him to stick around too. It's awesome to have 2 out actors on the same soap playing gay characters. That's progress big time for U.S. soaps. I think Nick adds value to the Llanview canvas, so I want him to stick around.
