AfterElton Briefs: "The Queens of Drag", "Uranus, The Queer Planet", and more!

Out boybanders (and couple) Mark Feehily and Kevin McDaid at the MTV Staying Alive Foundation launch party in London.

Following this assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.

  • As he's about to make his debut on 30 Rock, latimes.com has an interview with Cheyenne Jackson about his burgeoning career, and how the idea of playing Rock Hudson appeals to him.
  • The Alabama school that had canceled the entire prom because they couldn't bar a lesbian student from bringing a date has relented. The prom will go on, and the student can bring her date, as soon as she's "vetted".
  • Gay sprite Michael Ausiello is reporting that Minnie Driver will be guesting on Modern Family soon. This is important for two reasons: You can always tell a show is hot when famous guest stars start appearing, and I can't see Minnie Driver's name without shouting out "Minnie? Minnie Driver? Is it a dwarf?" (my undying love to whoever gets that reference). On a more serious note, a certain blogger and I are at loggerheads about how to refer to Michael Ausiello. I say "sprite", he says "Smurf". I guess the only way to resolve this is to combine the two. So it's either "spurf" or "smite". The latter sounds biblically harsh, so I guess we'll go with "spurf".

  • Above you can see Joy Behar chatting with Milk screenwriter Dustin Lance Black about being a "gay ex-Mormon Oscar winner".

Um ... a reunion of 80's Soap divas?

  • Above you can see the first promo for The Queens Of Drag, a pilot for a reality series hosted by out Project Runway alumni Jack Mackenroth.

And today's Briefs are brought to you by...

    In re: your Minnie Driver

In re: your Minnie Driver reference: "They always want me to..." "Sign autographs, Wear their outfits to your premiers?" "No, pay!"

We just watched Good Will Hunting in the film analysis class that I am teaching, and afterwards I told my cooperating teacher all about that episode, and I repeated the "Is it a dwarf" comment.  He laughed, but I don't think he really got it, because he changed the subject to football soon after.

    "I've been head shrunk."

    "Head hunted?"

"That's right. By Vogue. Is that a magazine or somethin'?"

    "By Vogue?! As what?"

    "...Editor! Silly."

I would've been first if I didn't have to go to YT to get my favourite quote. Curses!

    Memento Mori

Naoko Mori was NOT a fisherwomaness on Lake Titicaca.  No matter what Edwina said.  She was too busy in the Hub, with JB and Saint Ianto.

    You is 1 Twisted Snickster.

    What's Joy's story?

Anyone have any insight into Joy Behar's passionate, ongoing support of gay rights? With her new show, she's fast becoming one of our most outspoken and engaging allies. I think it's awesome, but I'm curious about the story behind her support.

PS: Lance, once again, makes an insightful, articulate talk show appearance, shedding interesting light on a tricky subject.

    Joy Behar's Story

Funny you should ask! I just did an interview with her that will go up next week. :-)

since my computer doesnt have sound....

since my computer doesnt have sound, i cant watch the DLB interview, but i was able to watch when Joy interviewed Ian McKellan and i was uncomfortable with it.

she seemed to be sooo fascinated that he was gay. it was so weird. half the interview was basically about him being gay.

I understand being gay friendly and that's great, but i really think the interview made her look 'obsessed' with the issue. amost as this was the first gay person she had ever come in contact with. *shudders* it was just so weird.

    anyone else see it?

    Jack Fertig

    Snicks, Darling.

Jack wouldn't care what you call him, just spell it right...

I knew Jack only one night ( It WAS the 70's y'know ) long before his sister act.

He was a bright lad enrolled at UC Berkeley.

All I remember is white, white skin, red hair, and a very wicked intellect.

I am glad to hear he's found a career to suit him.

Thanks. I'm not touching the rest.

Perhaps you both could stop the short-bashing and drop the irrelevant references to his height altogether.  Do you do similar things with cute names for African American columnists, or Asian columnists.
    TriplicateGuy's picture

    It's not short-bashing actually

Ausiello collects Smurfs and badgers his readers to bribe him with Smurf collectibles and raspberry Snapple in exchange for news on heir favorite shows. Plus I don't think he's short. He looks fairly tall compared to the celebrities he interviews.

I am guilty of always thinking of Alonso Duralde as a big, beefy papa bear of a film reviewer.

    sprite

The word "sprite" is derived from the Latin "spiritus" (spirit). Variations on the term include "spright" (the origin of the adjective "sprightly", meaning "spirited" or "lively")

Michael Ausiello has made more than one reference to wanting to be a Smurf.

I assure you there is no "bashing" by me or Ed.

    Yeah, Snicks!

Stop acting so small.  You're bigger than that.

    Spurf...

... sounds way too much like an onomatopoeia for something too naughty to be said on the site.

    Snicks is Absolutely Fabulous!

One of my favorite Bubble moments from Ab Fab -

Edina - "Bubble what is your job?"

    Bubble - "what's me what?"

Edina - "What do you do?!?!"

Bubble - "I dont know, Get Paid"

Just one of the many great interactions between Edi and bubble!
