AfterElton Briefs: Neil Patrick Harris likes to tease, "True Blood" revs up, and more!

Following this assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.

  • Out cutie Dan Gillespie Sells showed up at the London premiere of the new film Clubbed last night. Dan and his group The Feeling just ended their European tour, so hopefully they'll go back in the studio soon and give us more great pop music.
  • Good news for fans of out funnyman Mario Cantone. The stage show Superstar may be headed to Broadway with Mario in the lead role. The show "is the ultimate interactive theatrical experience. Capitalizing on the cultural phenomenon of reality television talent contests, Superstar brings to life the story of six finalists in a heated talent competition." Sounds like Oh! American Idol with Mario in the Ryan Seacrest role.
  • Production on the second season of HBO's True Blood begins this week and gay reporter sprite Michael Ausiello tried to wrangle a few spoilers from out creator Alan Ball. Unfortunately, all he could get was that the popular character of Lafayette might be back ... or might not, which is pretty much what actor Nelsan Ellis told us a few months ago.

  • Above you can see a series of promos for Neil Patrick Harris's upcoming hosting duties on Saturday Night Live. I'm praying they'll find some way to work a Clara's Heart skit somewhere into the show.
  • The nominees for the Writers Guild Awards were announced today and Milk received a nod for original screenplay for out writer Dustin Lance Black. I think of all the categories that the film may be nominated for at the Oscars, original screenplay may be its only shot at winning. Sorry! It's just a hunch!

And today's Briefs are brought to you by...

    LAFAYETTE WON'T BE BACK

Sorry folks, but as a reader of the Sookie Stackhouse novels, I can tell you with some certainty that Lafayette will NOT be back.  The last scene in the first season came right out of the first chapter of the second book (Living Dead in Dallas), and that was Lafayette's foot sticking out of the back of Andy Bellefleur's squad car.  Lafayette's murder figures prominently into the storyline of the book; so I imagine it will do likewise in Season 2 (Season 1's main story of the fangbanger murders followed the plotline of the first book, Dead Until Dark).  Incidentally, the woman with the pig also shows up in Book 2....

    Probably Not, But...

... remember the OD in British QaF that killed off a character, but the American version included it, yet kept them around?  It's possible that the positive response to the character and actor will cause them to alter the story in a way that keeps Lafayette around.  Not saying they will, mind you, and your info makes it more likely he's gone, but it's possible they could veer from the books.

    I think you're right, Dave...

...they've already veered from the books in other story lines: Jason's V habit, Tara being African American and working at Merlott's, the whole story line with Tara's mother and her exorcism, etc.

They could very well have the foot belong to someone else (my money's on Tara's mom).

    Ted's OD QAF

I thought showtime's QAF wussed out with not killing Ted when he OD'd, like what happened to Ted in the UK version.  Likewise, I think the series pussied out by not killing Michael in the bombing in the final season.  Don't get me wrong, Scott Lowell and Hal Sparks are good actors and I enjoyed them on the show, but as far as heightening the drama, they fell short IMHO.

    NPH...

I bet the general audience isn't the first thing he's teased in his life.

And hooray for Mario Cantone not being a total hasbeen!
