Two Gay Guys New and Improved: The Gay Villain Edition

You'll notice that this week's Two Gay Guys vlog contains some fancy shmancy upgrades! Freed from the tyranny of being tied to our desktop computer, we actually shoot on location and use all kinds of lame fancy camera work! Alas, our acting skills are, well, you'll see.

Inspired by the coded gay subtext in the new western 3:10 to Yuma, Brent and I discuss Hollywood's long, ignoble history of using gay stereotypes and cliches to make villains that much more dastardly. And perhaps we reenact some clips from Brokeback Mountain along on the way. We're practically dead ringers for Heath and Jake after all. If you squint. And have vision that is 800/800. And glaucoma. Oh, shut up!

Love the hats.  And also

Love the hats.  And also love that you cut to the railroad crossing sign right after you pointed out that you came down to the railroad tracks.  Awesome.

This movie has had good reviews, blech

What a surprise that the media supports homophobia. And I have seen some glowing profiles of Ben Foster, not mentioning his history of playing anti-gay stereotypes.

Yes, well, please keep in

Yes, well, please keep in mind, it IS a small part of the film. We're zeroing in on it because, well, that's what we do!

Coded gay villain

We also need to mention Wes the gay villain in The Road Warrior. At least in that movie the head villain didn't betray his gay henchmen and felt sympathy for him when his young lover was killed.

3:10 to Yuma

Y'all's heads-up on sly Hollywood homophobia is a great idea, but the subject deserves more discussion & less messing around with tech toys. You obviously know your subject. Cut to the chase & talk to us.

The villain from "Confidence"

A movie by the name of "Confidence" had a sociopathic nightclub owner/mob boss character as its main villain. They really went out of their way to imply that the villain was bi. During the course of the movie, he kept touching or trying to touch the male lead and the female lead whenever he talked to them. And in the movie they even mentioned that gay and lesbian nights were held in his nightclub. The character in question was Winston King aka "The King" (played by Dustin Hoffman).

Apart from the bi mobster, the movie was actually one of the better ones I've seen in a while. The plot was pretty good. Unfortunately, this movie is a perfect example of how the film industry thinks it's perfectly okay to have queer villains but queer heroes and heroines seem to be completely out of the question.
