AfterElton Briefs: the Ballad of Gay Tony, must see sci fi and more!
Following this assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.
And today's Briefs are brought to you by... This guy!
Okay, this isn't just any guy, but is Thomas Jane and I know he isn't wearing just briefs. Blame last night's episode of Hung for placing Mr. Jane on my mind and forcing me to post this picture! And trust me, I tried very hard to find a pic of him in his briefs!

Dang.
I don't find anything Gay
same
ye didn't seem anything gay about it
the game looks to be like the other GTA games, killing loads of things and breaking the law
*yawn*
pass.
Let me supplement
I'll supplement Michael's picture of Thomas Jane with a couple from Sunday's episode. He doesn't appear to be a briefs kind of man.
But he does have a cute butt, at least when he shows it briefly in the opening credits.
Great idea, but...
That Sci Fi map is a truly great idea, but man, how could it miss the most pivotal Sci Fi United States location of the last 40 years? Devil's Tower, Wyoming - a National Monument and the signature image and plot point of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I call bullshit!
i wouldn't
Grand Theft Auto Rocks
Grand Theft Auto is a blast. It is terrific that they are making the crime lord gay (and being a crime lord isn't a bad thing in GTA 'cuz no one interesting is "good" in GTA). GTA also reaches a completely different demographic than a lot of entertainment so having it so bluntly gay-inclusive with The Ballad of Gay Tony is awesome. When was the last time you heard "gay night clubs" along with straight night clubs mentioned in a video game as something great to own? It's fantastic that countless straight people will play a character that works for a gay boss. And I'm glad they included the parachute feature and the helicopter-gunship!
GTA...
I haven't been able to confirm that Gay Tony is gay (I only just started playing thanks to the X-Box price cut and it, overall, sounds like Gay Tony isn't very fleshed out as a character in The Lost and the Damned) but I was pretty pleased by the gay content in the core GTA game. One would expect GTA to have a fairly homophobic audience and they refuse to play to it. Instead they seem to be challenging any of their customers' homophobia.
GTA gay characters
These character have appeared in the GTA universe before The Ballad of Gay Tony.
This is Luis Fernando Lopez (above) - the straight bodyguard of gay nightclub owner Anthony "Gay Tony" Prince (below) who has owned clubs for 25 years. Luis appears in The Lost and Damned; once during the museum mission, and once in the mission Diamonds in the Rough when Johnny steals diamond from Gay Tony. Luis tells Gay Tony's boyfriend Evan Moss to flee with the diamonds via a limo, while Luis deals with bikers. Evan is killed during the mission; he is a male model and when he was younger he was a body builder in Arizona.
There is also Bernie Crane (below) who was once known as Florian Cravic. He is the guy that Niko Bellic tracked down to the USA. Bernie mentions at one point about Luis "If he played for our team I would totally be the catcher."
The Ballad of Gay Tony is using existing characters from the GTA universe and fleshing them out.
Thanks!
I know Tony and Luis appear in The Lost and the Damned, but I haven't been able to find any sites that clarified if Gay Tony is called that because he is gay... and since I'm still doing missions where I learn new skills in GTA (this game has so many 'learn the controls' missions) I haven't bothered to download L&D yet. (Okay, there's a bit of 'missed the sale' bitterness mixed in, since L&D was 25% off and I didn't buy it in time.)
BTW, I wrote a little bit about Bernie (and French Tom) soon after GTA IV came out. The character definitely has potential, I'm looking forward to encountering him in the game. I just wish GTA came with captions for my bad ears.
