Degrassi: The Next Generation (The N) 8:00 PM EDT
The award-winning, gay-inclusive, hit Candadian teen drama returns for the second half of its sixth season tonight. As an old school Degrassi fan, I've been looking for a jumping-on point to sample this series. Since I don't know if any local station picked up the syndicated reruns, it'll be interesting to see how easily I pick it up.
Loggerheads (Sundance Channel) 8:15 PM EDT
This drama follows a drifter who's been estranged from his adopted family since coming out, with the story picking up as his biological mother decides to seek him out. Telling the story as three interweaving tales, I hear this one has some strong performances by Kip Pardue, Tess Harper and Bonnie Hunt as well as some strikingly beautiful scenes of North Carolina.
The Best Years (The N) 9:30 PM EDT
Following the season-premiere of Degrassi, this new drama from a Degrassi writer follows Samantha Best, an orphan starting to college on a scholarship. I hear we should watch for Lee Campbell, a gay man who owns a popular hangout.
Saturday
The Graham Norton Show (BBC America) 6:00 PM EDT
Well, I would have recommended this repeat to you last week if I had proper information about the guest list, so instead I have to tell you this is your last chance to catch Joanna Lumley, along with Jon Bon Jovi, stop for a chat with the Irish comedian. Watch a clip below where Graham and Joanna go to great lengths for a joke.
Sunday
Concert for Diana (VH-1) 11:00 AM EDT & (NBC) 8:00 PM EDT
This benefit concert on the 10th anniversary of Princess Diana's death includes performances by Elton John, Will Young, Lily Allen, Fergie and Take That.
My Husband is Gay (BBC America) 10:00 PM EDT
Part of BBC America's Hot Docs series, this documentary takes a look at five couples where the husband has come out as gay.
Yey! Shout out to Degrassi! And theres much more on gay couple Marco and Dylan's relationship again in the next few episodes, as well as Paige flipping back and forth between boys and girls and her dealing with being a lesbian! (The episodes have already aired in Canada)
I also think Loggerheads is really worth a watch. It is beautifully done, and the acting is top notch. Also, all of the songs are Patty Griffins', and you can't go wrong there.
I saw Loggerheads at an indie film fest when it first came out (along with Mysterious Skin -- and yes, I was depressed after that one-two punch). I was blown away by the performances. Bonnie Hunt especially stood out for me. She acts more without saying a word than most of the high-paid actresses Hollywood fawns all over. The whole cast is strong, however. And like Kyle said, it has a soundtrack by Patty Griffin... what more can you ask for?
The N does air the original Degrassi show in reruns late at night sometimes. They also air reruns of TNG but usually out of order. I love Marco but I'm not crazy about Dylan. And Paige and Alex are my couple. I hope they can actually make it work this time.
ETA: A couple of the cast members from the original show play parents on TNG like Joey who is the step-father of Craig, Spike and Snake are married and the parents of Emma, and Caitlin has been on the show quite a bit as well. They also brought back Emma's birthfather for an episode.
Loggerheads
shout out to Degrassi!

I Thought That....
.... Loggerheads was very well done and well acted. I didn't care much for the ending, but over all I really enjoyed the movie.

Can't recommend Loggerheads enough
