AfterElton Briefs: "A Single Man" Gets De-Gayed, Hot Shirtless Boy Bands, "South Park", and more.

People are talking about precisely who Colin Firth wants to be in bed with.

Following this assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear. Yes, we're serious.

  • It's not fresh news right now, but I'd like to thank reader Darrien for pointing out that Jan Moir was named Bigot Of the Year  by Stonewall in the U.K. after a last minute nomination for her hateful articles about Boyzone singer Stephen Gately.
  • Adam Lambert was profiled by the L.A. Times yesterday and says he's more interested in being Beyonce than Daughtry. There are a stack of really good, funny jokes I want to make here, that are all in fun, but I'm afraid. I'm very afraid.
  • Over at Rod 2.0, there's a profile of the very sexy "documentary" about British boy band JLS. I don't know JLS's music, but I like the pictures (the teaser is from the show).

  • From Friday's Joy Behar Show, above, Kathy Griffin chats about Levi Johnston's johnson, which she says will require a "very large fig leaf" if he wants to cover up. Is anyone else over the hype, and just want to see how the boy measures up? Or if you don't care about that, how about just being curious if Sarah Palin's head explodes?
  • November 9th, 1985 was the date that Terry Sweeney, the first openly gay member of Saturday Night Live, joined the cast.
“South Park” is famous for tackling controversial subject matter in thoughtful and hilarious ways. This particular episode of the show has been both criticized and applauded within the gay and lesbian community. With all of that in mind, we will let this “South Park” episode speak for itself.
  • Happy belated 50th birthday to Chi Chi La Rue. Thanks for all the safer sex education, and the, um, films.

  • Next gay marriage fight? New York is either going to happen, or not, this week. The battleground is New Jersey, where National Organization for Marriage has their offices. Want to understand where your state rights are? Wall Street Journal has an unforunately red, interactive map.
  • Remember me saying I was scared to make a joke about Adam Lambert? Well, at TVBytheNumbers, a staffer put up a short piece about why she doesn't like Glee. What's the fanboy version of a fatwa?
  • Finally, because I don't think any of you can find me, enjoy this Glee parody called Cheap I found via The Bilerico Project. Yes, the integrated advertisement for A Christmas Carol is a bit much, but I thought it was worth it.

    Don't get it.

What's the point of "de-gaying" a movie in the trailer?  Tricking homophobes into watching your movie?  Is that what you really want, a bunch of people leaving twenty minutes in after they see Colin Firth kiss a boy?  And what about the gay viewers you're losing out on, who don't know what your movie is about?  Just seems really dumb to me.

    I don't get

Why we still don't see the Briefs guy on this page. I want to see him here, not click through to another page. What's the point in having it at all.

Yes, I'm going to keep harping on this until he returns in his full glory.

    I'm assuming

it's a "NSFW"-type issue.  Seems like a good idea to me.
    Dave Doty's picture

    Nope.

They said it's so that if you want to flip back through previous brief guys gallery-style, you don't have to scroll down on each individual page.

For the record, those goggles are a little too creepy for me to feel comfortable drooling over this one.

    Michael Jensen's picture

Dave is correct, however, so many folks have commented

on the NSFW issue that it seems like something we should have done a long time ago.

    Hey!

Hey - Creepy Goggle Guy was snicks on Thursday, which actually gave me a whole new respect for the youngin' - who knew he had it in him? I just went for well-packaged hunk.
    Dave Doty's picture

    Huh. That's weird.

I clicked the link again, and got today's picture.  How on earth did it manage to send me to Thursday's pic a few minutes ago?

More importantly, how did I not remember seeing Hottie From the Black Lagoon last week?

Right on the link and open

Right click on the link and open in a new tap. Then there is no going back and or forth. You can even leave the tap open and take a peek when ever you are ready and as many times as you like.

    SNL

November 9th, 1985 was the date that Terry Sweeney, the first openly gay member of Saturday Night Live, joined the cast.

That's first-- and only-- isn't it?  Has SNL had another openly gay cast member in the 24 years since then?

Am I forgetting someone or is that just really depressing?

    I kind of like

that the Briefs guy's on a different page.  It makes it easier, safer, and calmer to read through the regular briefs and the comments at work, but still have a way to access him and his ilk at home.  I appreciate the change.  I'm sorry, Joseph.

    Shane Dawson

I have to admit, Shane Dawson (starring in the Glee spoof) is sometimes the best part of my Saturdays (his channel on Youtube has new videos every Saturday). I luv him sooo much b/c he's crazy funny! Also, in case you didn't know, the ghost is WHATTHEBUCK!

Also, let me restate, I like the extra click to get to the Brief's guy. The mystery of not knowing what I'm going to get (delayed gratification) feels soooo good :)~

"The Butch Factor" is a FANTASTIC movie

I've been praising it to anyone who'll listen since I saw it in SF in June.  Really, really thought-provoking stuff.

Lee Daniels is a very handsome man; what's with the ghastly picture?

    My Southern Lady Response.

You enjoyed something by that little Shane Dawson and thought we would too?  Tut, tut.  He does go on and on.  Bless his heart and keep trying, he might get us to smile some day.  In the mean while, I'll just as soon pass, thank you.

    I'm loving this Luke/Mason/Noah threeway!

The Luke and Noah and Mason story is heating up. Mason tells Luke that Noah is a big boy (but offers no proof) and that it's game on! Luke tells Mason that the kiss he planted on Noah was "pathetic"and Noah responds to Luke's concern by telling him, "You're my guy!" Awwwwwww. Then in the preview Luke goes all Tammy Wynette on Mason and is ready to get into a knock down drag out to hold onto his man.

First a deranged and murderous father, then a bout of paralysis, then a lasivious grandpa, then treacherous twins, then a mail order Iraqi bride and now a homewrecking professor. Just how much are these young lovers going to have to take.

SOMEBODY GIVES THESE BOYS A HUG....no, not you Mason.

    Good for the boy

Heck, I say good for Levi Johnston. He was put into the national spotlight by a power hungry bitch politician and thrown to the wolves. He's making the best of a bad situation. If he went to work for McDonald's he'd still have his face plastered about as look at how low he fell. Grab as much as you can while you can. Good For Levi. Besides I d think he's pretty fkn hot

    I don't care

I don't care that the marketing for A Single Man has been de-gayed, as long as the movie hasn't..

Portugal legalizing gay marriage? Wow, the world has certainly moved forward! I think it's great. I hope more countries will follow soon too.

The movie is FAR from De-gayed

It's intensely gay in the most important way because it's about gay love. No sex is depicted (as was true of the novel) but there's plenty of smooching and gorgeous guys. Plus a kick-ass speech by the great Colin Firth about how much his lover meant to him.

    Count me among the people

who are only paying attention to the hype about Levi's johnson so we can see the wicked witch of Alaska's head explode. I don't see the big deal beyond that. Personally, if I want to see a twenty year old schlong, I'll strip in front of a mirror.

    I doubt very much the

I doubt very much the Catholics in Portugal are giving us any love. They're up in arms as usual. But the same thing happened with Spain, it is a predominantly Catholic country and they still introduced gay marriage. It's the idea of a complete separate church and state that is bringing these changes about, which I don't think has quite happened in the US yet.
    yehnica's picture

    You're right on both

You're right on both accounts. As of today, the Portuguese bishops are gathered to decide if they'll be asking for a national referendum on the issue. This doesn't mean anything in itself, the government already stated they won't be doing one, but we'll see. There hasn't been a huge outcry from the church yet, which I like to think might be related to at least some people thinking it's none of their business, but the archbishop of Braga, president of the Episcopalian Conference, has already awarded us with some choice words on how gay marriage is ethically unacceptable and how women's search for individual affirmation is to blame for, among other things, domestic violence. From what I've gleaned from his speech, it looks like he blames women for pretty much everything, including gays wanting to get married.

We are a predominantly Catholic country, but the majority of the people is fiercely against Church involvement in State affairs. I remember there was a big outcry some years ago when the current PM thanked god in an official speech. It's too reminiscent of pre-revolution times, I think.

    Gay marriages in Norway

We still have the state church here in Norway, but we also have gay marriage. Of course the church refuses to marry gay couples, so we only have civil gay marriages for now. It's awful that the church gets funding from the state when they discriminate against LGBT people!

Argentina probably next to legalize gay marriage

From wiki: Legislation was presented in Argentina's congress on 27 October 2009 that would give same-sex couples all of the rights of marriage. A poll released on early 2007 showed that 75 percent of those surveyed in the capital believe gays and lesbians should be allowed to marry.

So.. If so many countries can legalize gay marriage, why can't USA?
