Liev Schreiber plays butchest drag queen ever.
The Village Voice's Michael Musto had a chance to talk with Elliot Tiber, about getting the gayer aspects of his memoir Taking Woodstock to the screen. Turns out before Ang Lee took on the film project, Tiber had passed on working with two film studios that wanted to completely de-gay his story. And even with Ang Lee at the helm, Taking Woodstock is not exactly Brokeback. Tiber points out that his original memoir contains anecdotes about Robert Mapplethorpe, Tennessee Williams, and Rock Hudson, and none of those made it into the final film. Musto also spoke with Demetri Martin, who plays Tiber in the film. Martin says that a scene involving his character at NY's Eagle leather bar wound up on the cutting room floor. "I wore a leather vest and tight, dark jeans. But the regulars really did it up!" Probably the gayest thing that remains in the film is Liev Schreiber's turn as "Vilma," quite possibly the butchest drag queen ever. You can judge for yourself in the clips that follow after the break! Taking Woodstock clip: Elliott hires Vilma

well...
after going claw-to-claw with wolverine, this is the most opposite swing of the pendulum. but ya gotta try really hard to out-butch queen wesley snipes in 'to wong foo...'
It's a very sweet scene
Looking forward to this
This drag queen is definitely dressed frillier than the one Liev portrayed in "Mixed Nuts", but is most definitely butcher.
I loved this book! And I hope the movie does well to tell Elliot's story with the truth and love that the original manuscript did.
Liev looks great
I've never paid Liev
I've never paid Liev Schreiber much attention. I've liked him in things I've seen him in, but he just was never at the top of my list. But, the interview clip, moreso than the movie one, has changed my opinion. That he so freely referred to Vilma as she/her without batting an eye or having to correct himself shows a truly respectful and insightful human being.
As for the movie, I've wanted to see it since first hearing about it. And that really has all to do with Demetri!!
I like it!
I really like the clips. The movie looks very good, I'll definitely see it.. Though the fact that they de-gayed the movie a little bit sucks. Still, it looks like Leiv Schreiber does an amazing job as Velma. I loved all of his answers in the interview, and I admire him for taking on a role some might concider controversial. He obviously has no problems with the role though, and he looked great too.
Harvey Milk: You gotta give 'em hope.
Excited
Im Jealous... Liev Shriber looks hotter then me in Drag!
either way i'll curb my jealousy enough to see the film! Super excited!
