The proof is in the Pudding: James Franco as Man of the Year
James Franco impressed audiences this year with two very different roles: a sweet but bumbling pot dealer in Pineapple Express and Harvey Milk's soulmate Scott Smith in Milk. So it's altogether fitting that the affable actor be named 2009's Man of the Year by Harvard University's Hasty Pudding Club. (The club has previously honored Kevin Kline, Robert Downey, Jr., Christopher Walken, Ben Stiller, Richard Gere, Harrison Ford, and many more.) The drag-happy drama society's annual awards are fairly legendary at this point, and they didn't disappoint this year, offering up some skin, a cow and a runway show that would put RuPaul's Drag Race to shame. And while the shtick behind the Pudding Club's award is clearly to humiliate the recipient as much as possible, is any of this even remotely as bad as being accosted by Joey Fatone on the red carpet? Methinks not.
