New video blog: Sounds Like a Hit!

We're excited to bring you a new kind of vlog here at AfterElton.com: in Sounds Like a Hit!, two gay friends on opposite coasts chat via webcam about current pop culture events, music and gay icons.

This week Brian (Los Angeles) and Kyle (New York City) dish on Beyonce's multiple-personality disorder, the use of parentheses in pop song titles, and Bob Fosse's routine for "Mexican Breakfast". Then the gents hop into their gay time machine to discuss Bette Midler's performance in The Rose.

Welcome the new fellas and enjoy the first episode after the break!

    Da Boyz r so crazy!!!!!

I give you guys 5 Cybils out of 5.  Your coast-to-coast format is so cute and both you guys have enough personality that you should bottle it and sell it on ebay.

I have to say that you guys are a bit hard on Sasha Fierce/ Beyonce' aka Mrs. Jay Z.  You know that being a young bride in the public eye and being married to one of the most sought after men in hip hop and music period, is enough to make a girl go Crazy and be in love.  However you observation were a bit on point about B/Mrs. Z/ Sasha Fierce but you must haven't seen this chick dancing in this video for 'Single Ladies (Put a Ring on it) because if this is Sasha Fierce, than I have only one word and that is "FIERCE".  The Bob Fosse reference was extra cute, I know he is somewhere in the clouds smiling down on SaSha and you guys.

Speaking about the past, talking about Bette Midler and Sally Field in one blog is enough to make the sympathetic sissy in me scream because these are women that I honestly do have conversations about daily.  Even though, I have never given anyone any Cybil awards, I daily think of Sally Field and all of her glory.  She was Gidget on tv and had the cutest car, the cutest best friend and always some extremely hot boy-for-the-60's-standards, trying to take her out and get approval from her fine in a Ward Cleaver-knock-off way but stern father.  I have to admit that those dads from the 50 and 60's with their sweaters and tucked in pressed shirts and pants, were hotties to me.  It seems Gidget's dad on the show was just so hot to me, that there was something about his swagger that appealed to my psyche.  Then Ms. Sally Field did some dramatic work, that was touchy and heartbreaking but to me her comedic take in 'Soap Dish' with Kevin Kline, who just happens to be another DILF (Dad I LIKE TO F&*%) and Whoopi 'THE VIEW' Goldberg was the worked that I loved about Ms. Field.  "Turbins, Turbins!  Who am I,  Gloria Swanson!"  Soap DIsh has to be one of the funniest movie ever.  The movie was packed with stars because there was a very young and pre-Desperate Housewives Teri Hatcher and a very younger, nerdier and much cuter Robert Downey Jr., he might have been dating SJP, when he was filming this film.

As I'm checking out your fresh and extra hip blog, I'm attempting to pen my first book (Giggling Like A 13 Year Old Girl ) but ironic enough, I almost had another title, 'I LIED TO BETTE MILDER, IN A DREAM'.  It seems a day before I realized that my new and current title was perfect, I had a dream about Bette 'The Rose' Milder.  It seems I am not  one to have dreams about stars, well maybe that is a lie because I had a few 'moist' dreams about Beckman, Pitt and Shamar Moore but what gay man hasn't had a few of those dreams.  However, I had this dream about 'Madame M' and it was historic because she was the first celebrity, I have ever had a dream about.  The sad and very twisted part of the dream was the simple fact, that I lied to her and not just a little white lie but a huge lie and in her face, which I could see clearly.  When I woke up from this dream, I knew I had a title but then I went back to my original ideal and stuck with it.

The film, 'THE ROSE' was one of those films that you had to have heard something about, throughout your life as a gay man.  The simple fact that most gay men pass on wisdom about art, leisure and other past times, so that areas of our lives, loves and even dislikes are never forgotten about and carried on, like an inheritance.  I was younger when I heard about 'The Rose' and nothing but awesome reviews and just the fact that Bette Midler is pure genius in this film.  Her not winning the Oscar was like Diana Ross, not wining for ' Lady Sings The Blues' to the lovely and multi-talented Liza M.  I have some more trivia about this historic film, The Rose.  It seems one of disco music's legendary queens, literally, 'Slyvester' has a cameo and plays a drag queen verison of Diana Ross.

Bette was known as 'Bathhouse Bette' for her sold out performances at several Bathhouses throughout New York and such wonderful places.  More Trivia, it seems her music conductor for those performances was gay iconic in his own right 'Barry 'Fanilow' Mannilow.

I just have to say 'Your blog is a hit!'

    Bob Fosse'

Are you sure it's not the choregraphy for 'Sweet Charity', that your referring to, instead of Mexican Breakfast.  I watched Beyonce' video last night and it was more of Bob Fosse, choregraphy for 'Sweet Charity'.

    I loved it...I laughed...

I cried!  Brian is the hottest queer in WeHo and Kyle sure does know his onions!  I love the rating system they use!  I was entertained the whole 8 minutes!  Even my gay dog loved it (who, you should know, is the mayor of West Hollywood in the dog community).  I dont mean to name drop, but he is...ask anyone on my block.
