In which I do gay trivia gymnastics in order to justify geeking out over "Harper's Island"
I'll admit, as a movie guy I can be pretty tough on television shows, and I don't often get too excited about new ones headed our way. So it's with a somewhat unfamiliar sense of glee that I'm writing about Harper's Island, a new self-contained murder mystery series coming to CBS that is possibly the most awesome-looking bit of television since Laura Palmer rolled out of that plastic tortilla on Twin Peaks. Essentially, a group of people go to an island for a wedding and in 13 episodes are systematically killed off, leaving the audience guessing who will be whacked next, and who the killer might be. It's kind of like And Then There Were None meets April Fool's Day ... or even Lost, if the creators hadn't pussed out and decided to introduce time travel to keep the story going for 435 years. While I don't think that there's anything gay about the series, the cast is full of folks that we've seen before in other gay-friendly projects. Let's meet them! Christopher Gorham Christopher Gorham starred in Ryan Murphy's camptastic Popular before moving to the accounting department at Mode in the ridiculously gay-friendly Ugly Betty. As the groom-to-be, let's hope that Gorham sticks around a while, and possibly shows off some more of that killer bod that Henry was hiding under his pocket protectors. Richard Burgi Hot daddy Richard Burgi is a fave of many thanks to his stint on Desperate Housewives, and he plays a great jerk. David Lewis David Lewis may not be terribly familiar, but I was delighted to learn that one of his first credits was appearing in what might be the greatest short film of all time, Guy Maddin's Sissy Boy Slap Party. Chris Gauthier Chris Gauthier played gay Vincent on Eureka. I've never seen that show but I understand he was pretty much gay in concept only, but if you were a fan of his you might want to check him out here. Harry Hamlin Harry Hamlin of course starred in the groundbreaking Making Love, and also got many a gay boy interested in Greek mythology when he played Perseus in Clash of the Titans. And finally, blonde newcomer Matt Barr (at top, with Gorham and Brandon Jay McLaren) just played asshole housemate Puck in Pedro. Granted, I'm a horror nut, so a slasher movie reimagined as an episodic drama is right up my alley. Anyone else excited about this one besides me?

It sounds like it could be
It sounds like it could be fun if they keep us guessing.
I'll be even more excited if we get a vlog recap ala "Blood Work.'
Just sayin'...
And here it is!
Alas, I looked into it while at the TCA and
YES!
Definitely excited to watch this. I've always wished that some television shows were formatted as single season stories as opposed to open-ended narratives that can drag on for as long as people keep thinking up random crap. I like getting into something knowing they've already thought through the beginning, middle, and end. Plus I've always had a weakness for murder mysteries that engage you and keep you guessing, and it looks like this could be one of those.
Fingers crossed that it doesn't suck!
Looks good
Umm, Lost had the time element the whole time, it just didn't come into the forefront until recently, and it was always intended to get more sci-fi up to the ending. Many would argue the pace has improved greatly because of it.
Looking forward to Harper's Island, can only hope that i'll hold a candle to the standards that Lost has set.
This looks like fun!
I love "Ten Little Indians/And Then There Were None"-type mysteries, so I have high hopes for this. I'm especially glad that they're letting the audience know that it's a finite project, and won't be dragged out until nobody cares anymore. If the US version of Life On Mars had made the same initial choice, the audience wouldn't have been subjected to the WTF ending the writers pulled out of their butts this week.
My first computer game...
...(boy, I'm dating myself here) was The Colonel's Bequest, which was a Sierra On-Line whodunnit adventure game in the vein of Agatha Christie's Ten Little Indians (or the more politically-correct title, And Then There Were None). Essentially, the player takes on the role of a Nancy Drew wannabe who is stuck on an island plantation in a mansion full of eccentric (and possibly murderous) characters in the Louisiana bayou.
