AfterElton Briefs: Will Young brands himself "the worst gay", Tom Ford's Isherwood film bulks up, and more!

Out pop star Will Young

Following this assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.

  • UK pop star Will Young noted recently that he's "the worst gay person ever" because he hasn't done much in the way of campaigning for gay causes. I still have a feeling we can find a few worse than you, Will. (For starters, your hair is divine!)
  • In this brief interview, Anderson Cooper suggests that gonzo drag act Kiki and Herb should have their own cable news program ... proving that yes, I actually can love him more than I already do. Keep it comin', Coop!
  • Out singer/songwriter Stephin Merritt (The Magnetic Fields) is the inspiration for a new line of footwear from French shoe company Bluedy. The line consists of four "mid-top designs" ... and I'm not gonna even touch that one.
  • Above, from our news sibling 365Gay: A gay man murdered in Dallas. The suspect is a homeless man found in photos of pornographic nature in gay man's apt.
  • Remember how we said that Xanadu on Broadway will be closing in October? Well, we lied. (Okay, we didn't; they just moved the close date up to this Sunday. Smoke 'em if you got 'em!)
  • Marc Malkin is reporting that Tom Ford is very close to signing the leads for his directorial debut, a film adaptation of gay author Christopher Isherwood's 1964 novel A Single Man: Colin Firth will reportedly play the lead (a gay professor), with Jamie Bell and Julianne Moore playing his support network after his longterm lover dies.

And today's Briefs are brought to you by...

This guy!

This is NOT good news

A Single Man is Isherwood's masterpiece. Colin Firth is OK for the lead, but Ralph Finnes would have been a lot better. Julianne Moore and Jamie Bell are fine for the supporting roles. But Tom Ford? I'd love to be proven wrong but I wouldn't trust him with a dinner theater production of Norman, is That You? much less Isherwood.

Cute ginger Brit pop stars

Will Young's guilt is so adorable (as is he).  He shouldn't feel badly though.  He's been out for years and he makes no effort to conceal himself.  I remember picking up a copy of a UK tabloid in London and there were pics of him walking the street holding hands with his boyfriend and the camera angle made it clear they weren't being photographed from a duck blind.

When I compare this to all the celebs that spend years denying being gay I think Will is probably pretty far from being the "worst gay person ever", even if he's not a big activist like Sir Ian McKellen, Sir Elton John or John Barrowman.
