AfterElton Briefs: Mencia's gay marriage gags, "Brokeback"'s timely television premiere, and more!

Kermit Love and one of his most beloved creations, Big Bird

In a continued effort to bring you all that is important in the world of gay entertainment and ensure that you are being spoon-fed images of gorgeous, commoditized manflesh, we present the newly-minted AfterElton Briefs. Following the usual assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.

  • I appreciate that Nerve is running a list of gay movies for Pride month, but I can't say I agree with the list itself. No Parting Glances? Really?
  • We totally missed this, but costume designer Kermit Love, who also helped create Big Bird and oodles of other beloved Muppets, passed away at age 91 over the weekend. His longtime partner, Christopher Lyall, was interviewed for the mainstream coverage of his life and passing. (t/y Jason for the tip)
  • BBC News Magazine has an update on The Mayo Ad That Ate Britain, including the fact that MP's are even getting involved in the scuffle ... is mayo the new controversial condiment? (Don't tell salsa, you know how he hates losing the spotlight!)

  • Above, Mind of Mencia discusses gay marriage in that slapdash, faux-satirical and rather vulgar manner that is its hallmark. Were the crowd not to clearly overjoyed to see the two grooms kiss, it would be pretty awful. (t/y Ed for the tip!)
  • Not only is Bravo airing the GLAAD Media Awards this Friday, but it's following it up with the network television premiere of Brokeback Mountain, and is advertising both together. And here I thought the A-List Awards was the gayest night on Bravo this year...

And today's Briefs are brought to you by...

    Technically...

there are no briefs in that picture. Thank heavens for that. Hawt.

I think Heinz, being an US company, was used and willing to pull the ad. The only thing is that doesnt fly in other parts of the world. The petition started to reinstate the ad has more than 8000 signatures now, and with goverment getting involved I hope they are forced to do it.

And Rock Hudsons home movies??? What a strange list.

Does anyone have the address ...

... for Ajaxx? I'd like to order me one of those -- hold the t-shirt.

Brian - please be careful juxtaposing photos

I thought the Ajaxx model was the one who created Big Bird.

Parting Glances? Did you look at the list?

    Oh, Brian -- (O'Brien?) --

The list on Nerve is a textbook case of what Top 100, Top 50, Top whatever lists are supposed to do -- make readers write their own lists, and make people think about what their own Tops are, and cause controversy. When Far from Heaven was near the top of the list, I thought, "This is one weird list!" It's a great film, but it isn't usually listed with the top films like Brokeback Mountain, Desert Heart, and Parting Glances.

It's a great list, though, in terms of being both thought provoking and accurate -- though not always at the same time. It's a totally different list from the one I would write, but -- well, that's the point. And that's the fun. (And I've gotta see Parting Glances again -- I don't know when I saw it last, but it's been way too long.)

    Screw Heinz -- I'm staying with Hellmann's

I've signed the petition, and I'm not clear about boycotting -- I need to research some more stuff -- but I haven't been a Heinz mayo customer and I'm not going to start now. I'd be interested in hearing what Teresa Heinz Kerry has to say about the whole situation -- I remember how she was Den Mother to the Gays in 2004. What's she thinking now? (As I recall, she's not one to keep her opinions to herself.)

I actually quite liked the Gay Marriage sketch, 'puto' lmao!

And for your information American Family Association, gay marriage is not illegal in England, it just goes under a different name! Sheesh, some people are so in denial...

If it goes by a different name, it can't be the same.

    Although I could've done

Although I could've done w/o the "puto" remark, I thought that Mind of Mencia handled the topic of same-sex marriage remarkably well, especially when you consider how offensive Mencia usually is.

The audience (at least the women) ate it up.

And it didn't hurt that the grooms & the stripper put on a good show.
