Nate apologizes for gay slur... sort of

You may remember from my interview with Brad Virata from Survivor: Cook Islands when he talked about fellow castaway Nate calling him a nancy boy. Well, Nate was recently voted off the island and he was asked about his choice of words in an interview by TV Guide. Here's what he had to say about the offensive comment: "At the end of the day, considering Brad's actions toward not swimming and me calling him out, no, I don't regret that. The fact that I called him a nancy boy and it offended him — I want to take that back, because I'd never want to hurt him. He's a dear friend, and I like the guy a lot. I think people made a big deal out of it because of his sexual preference. I'm not a homophobe. I was an ally of his when I knew he was gay. We were cool. If Adam had done the same thing, I'd have called Adam a nancy boy. If I offended homosexuals or Brad by saying that — if they think I was directing it toward his sexual preference — then I am going to apologize, because that is not my style. I would have called him something else

a "f--k-off" or something else that didn't [hint at] his sexual preference. I texted him [after my elimination] and said "I'm sorry," and he said it was cool. But I've heard comments that he wouldn't want to hang out with me, and that is too bad because I thought we were close friends." I guess that's not bad as far as an apology goes. He did say he didn't mean it to be directed at Brad's orientation, but it was still an insensitive remark. Nate is kind of a meathead, and doesn't seem to be the sharpest tool in the shed, so I guess you have to take it for what it's worth. At any rate, it was kind of cool to see the interview quoted.

From what I remember of that clip, Nate also held his wrist in a limp manner and lisped. That's more than just "nancy boy".

There was another clip, seen only on Innertube, where Nate told Adam Brad was a "bitch" and he would have to keep feeding them until they got rid of him. His words about Brad were, "Keep feeding us...TRAITOR!"

That's not how I treat a friend. Maybe it's just me.

I think Nate has some real issues with masculinity and virility. Brad was strong yet he was also effeminate. That throws people for a loop if they are insecure about themselves, as I believe Nate is, judging by the way that he hung all over Adam and Ozzy and tried to convince himself he had some romance with Parvati.

Nate is trying to make himself look like the victim. Boo hoo, Brad doesn't want to be his friend.

I wouldn't want to be someone's friend either if they treated me that way.

It's sad that Brad got so little airtime and Nate was on there constantly. And the ONE time that Brad's sexual orientation was brought up was as an anti-gay slur.

Ugh. I can't imagine CBS airing that if Nate had used a racial or anti-Semetic slur.
