NO CHUCK AND LARRY THIS SUMMER — AND YOU THOUGHT THERE WAS NO GOD
Do you recall how last summer we were all excited that there was an actual big budget movie that had a gay theme? The movie was Adam Sandler's I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry and, okay, maybe we more uneasy than excited exactly, but we were definitely curious to see what the frequently gay-friendly Sandler's movie would be like. Given what a piece of dreck it turned out to be, maybe it's a good thing none of the big budget summer movies are built around a gay plot. But that doesn't mean that aren't any summer movies of gay interest. Indeed, there are a few and I now present them all wrapped up in a neat little speedo all slathered in sun block. Because ere at AfterElton.com, we really care.

MAY — CARRIE BRADSHAW AND THE KINGDOM OF PRADA SHOES
Given how little screen time Anthony Marantino (Mario Cantone) and Stanford Blatch (Willie Garson) are likely to have in it, calling Sex and the City: The Movie a gay film is a wee bit of a stretch. But it's definitely going to be gay-friendly and of gay interest to a lot of us 'mos. No doubt there will be than one Carrie/Stanford and Charlotte/Anthony look-a-alike attending showing's around the country. Heck, Cosmos might even be trendy again. Okay, probably not.

Also out in May are two flicks with two gay faves. Julianne Moore stars as an image-obsessed, status conscious woman whose relationship with her in all likelihood gay son is all sorts of freaky. So far reviewers have not been terribly kind to it. Also out in May is Ashton "Eye Candy" Kutcher in the rom-com What Happens in Vegas... Don't go looking for either of these to be making any of those end of the year lists from the critics. Well, at least not the good lists.

Savage Grace gets crushed by Sex and the City on May 30th while Vegas opens May 9th before it gets stomped on by The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian and then some other movie about some old dude named Indiana.

JUNE — SORRY, WE GOT NOTHING!
Perhaps you could content yourself watching Shelter again or something a little older like Trick, The Bubble or Beautiful Thing. Or go play outside. It's June for crying outloud!

Actually, there is one movie you might want to check out and one you might want to avoid. Bill Maher stars in Religulous, Larry Charles' follow-up to Borat. Maher treks around the globe asking folks about religion and no doubt the topic of homosexuality will come up. But without Sacha Baron Cohen naked. Rats.

Adam Sandler's You Don't Mess With the Zohan has the "amusing" premise of his character seeking to fulfill his lifelong dream of being a hairdresser. Given how clunkily Chuck and Larry handled its gay subject matter, I'm worried what they'll do with poor Alec Mapa in the movie.

Religulous opens on June 20th and Zohan on June 6th.
