Ask the Flying Monkey! (March 11, 2008)Q: Is Dimitri Medvedev secretly Gareth David-Lloyd's father? — Tommy A: Dimitri Medvedev (below left), Russia’s current president-“elect” after what was obviously a sham election, is not, in fact, the father of David-Lloyd, famous primarily for having three first names (and also for the role of Ianto Jones, the bisexual love interest of Captain Jack on Torchwood). But there is, in certain photos anyway, an interesting resemblance.
But this got me thinking about other “separated-at-birth” gay pairings. For example, high-foreheaded Neil Patrick Harris has a more-than-passing resemblance to the alien in The Twilight Zone episode “To Serve Man.” Could they be related?
Meanwhile Queer Eye guy Carson Kressley looks remarkably like — you guessed it. Brady mom Florence Henderson.
And speaking of the Brady clan, some mention must be made of the uncanny resemblance between “secretly gay Brady dad” Robert Reed to…a Brillo Pad (at least during those awful "perm" years).
Q: Do you have any idea if there will ever be a Queer as Folk movie? What’s up with the stars of the show? — Cherry, Manila, Philippines A: I called Temple Street Productions, the Canadian company that produced the show, and they reported that, no, there are no plans to make a Queer as Folk movie. Then I called Showtime, which aired the show, and alas, they reported there’s nothing in the works there either. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news! Gale Harold, Randy Harrison, Peter Paige
As for the cast, despite the difficulty that the producers supposedly had in casting the show’s mostly gay characters, I’m happy to report that the leads have continued to work, especially on television, but also in theatrical roles and independent film. Gale Harold followed up the failure of his series Vanished with a recent arc on Grey’s Anatomy. Randy Harrison earned strong reviews in major productions of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Tennessee William’s The Glass Menagerie. With Say Uncle, Peter Paige has moved into writing and producing, and continues to perform the voice of “Steve” on Logo’s animated series Rick & Steve, the Happiest Gay Couple in All the World.
