"Ugly Betty" (4.4) Recap: "The Wiener, The Bun, And The Boob"
I was going to do another "good, bad, and meh" recap, but there was no "bad" in last Friday's terrific episode (save for Justin offering up just another brief cameo), and the "meh" wasn't as "meh" as it could have been. I'm still not looking forward to the upcoming Nico "murder-mystery", but her involvement in this week's show was limited to helping Wilhelmina hold on to her position at Mode. Hilda had a very Hilda-esque story, as she took a scantily-clad pic of herself to send to Archie, and hit the dreaded "reply all" on the computer, sending the photo to everyone on his campaign list. Initially furious, Archie learns the valuable lesson that a heaving bosom is worth a thousand campaign flyers.
Speaking of big boobs, we have Daniel. He hired a new assistant based on her looks, and gets himself into Daniel-esque trouble by ... accidentally groping her. His new "kindred spirit" Natalie helps him through it, and it's all relatively painless. That leaves the good, which this week, was very good. When I first saw the previews with Marc and Betty in hot dog costumes, I groaned a bit. A little slapstick on this show goes a long away, and after last week's episode-killing restaurant scene, I was afraid of more of the same. Fortunately, the Marc/Betty scenes took a giant step towards re-defining their relationship, and showed us more of the insecurity and fear behind much of Marc's bitterness towards her. Things get rolling when Betty is swamped with work and asks Wilhelmina for an assistant. Wanting to get Marc (who's asking Nico too many probing questions) out of the way for a while, she assigns him to help out his nemesis, which doesn't sit well with either Betty or Marc.
