"Project Runway" (6.11) Recap: "Best of the Best"
So how many of you counted on Christopher being the last "Team Gay" member standing? I'm proud to say I've been with him since day one, and knew he'd make it through! That just leaves those five pesky straight designers in his way. Before this week's challenge even begins, Christopher (like many of us) is wondering what the hell he has to do to get back in the good graces of the judges. He tells Logan: I've put out pieces that I like, But I've got to get the judges to get it. During this whole process, I've been all over the place. Congratulations, congratulations, great work, good work, stunning, fantastic ... now sucky, we hate it, we hate you ... you're fat. Poor Christopher. On the plus side, at least we don't have to listen to Nicholas making this speech.
This week's challenge begins with all six designers in chairs, facing away from the runway. Heidi enters and tells them they can turn around, where they come face-to-face with their winning designs. There are lots of "oohs" and "aahs" as each designer gazes adoringly at the dress that helped get them this far in the competition ... except for Logan, who never actually won a challenge, and stares dejectedly at his "this didn't win anything, but sorta came close" design. Awkward. The designer challenge this week is to create a companion piece for their winning design. It's here that I think the show made a huge mistake. I think this challenge would have been much more interesting if the designers had to make companion pieces for other designer's winning designs. It would have led to lots of backstage drama and forced some of the designers out of their comfort zone. As it turns out, this challenge was hard enough as it is for some of the designers.
