"Project Runway" 6.9 Recap: "Sequins, feathers, and fur, oh my!"
This show is very lucky. I was all set to go ballistic and pronounce "Project Runway is dead to me!", but the elimination provided a miraculous (and somewhat inexplicable) surprise. We start off with Heidi Klum informing the eight remaining designers that there will be no immunities for the rest of the challenges, so after this show there'll be no "I have immunity, so I'll sleep through this one" excuses (I'm looking at you, Gordana!). The eight leave to meet Tim Gunn, who's surrounded by mannequins stolen from the Las Vegas Tacky Hall Of Fame. This can only mean one thing ... this challenge will involve the greatest designer of all time, Bob Mackie!
Bob tells the designers that this week's challenge is to "create a gown using just a curtain rod and drapes". Okay, he doesn't say that, but how frickin' cool would that be? (and if you don't get that reference, you have been seriously deprived). Bob and Tim actually tell the eight that they'll be designing a stage outfit for [gay gasp] Christina Aguilera [/gay gasp]. The designers rush through fabric shop Mood trying to gather as much gaudy, over-the-top material they can, as well as feathers, sequins, and anything else Ann-Margret might have worn on a 70's Bob Hope special.
